Tiki Mugs: How to Display and Care for Your Collection

Quick answer

Display your tiki mugs on sturdy, dust-free shelves away from direct sunlight, and hand-wash them gently with mild soap to preserve their finish. Rotate your collection occasionally to prevent uneven fading.

How to display and care for your tiki mug collection

1. Choose a safe display location: Place mugs on sturdy, level shelves away from windows or direct sunlight. Sunlight can fade glazes over time. Avoid high-traffic areas where mugs might be knocked over. Check that each shelf can support the weight of your largest mug, like the 48 oz T-Rex mug.
2. Clean mugs by hand only: Wash with mild dish soap and a soft sponge or cloth. Never use abrasive scrubbers or put tiki mugs in the dishwasher—heat and harsh detergents can damage the glaze or cause crazing (fine cracks). Dry immediately with a soft towel to prevent water spots, especially on matte finishes.
3. Dust regularly and rotate display: Dust mugs every few weeks with a soft, dry cloth or a gentle brush. Rotate which mugs are on display every couple of months to minimize uneven exposure to light and air. If a mug has a removable lid or stir stick, dust those separately and store them together to avoid losing small parts.
4. Store unused mugs safely: Wrap each mug in acid-free tissue paper or soft cloth, and place them in individual boxes with padding. Never stack mugs on top of each other. Store in a cool, dry place away from temperature swings. Label each box with the mug name so you can find pieces without unwrapping everything.
5. Handle with care during use: If you drink from your tiki mugs, avoid sudden temperature changes—don't pour hot liquid into a cold mug. Use coasters to protect surfaces and your mug's base. For mugs with intricate details or small parts (like the Halloween pumpkin lid), consider using them as display-only pieces to preserve their condition.

Product facts

• Spongebob Squarepants - Tiki Mug - Riptide Variant: This SpongeBob tiki mug is available in three colorways and designed by Joe Allard, sculpted by Ramirez Studios. Different colorways may have different glaze sensitivities, so check for any manufacturer care notes before cleaning or displaying near sunlight.

• Jurassic Park – T-Rex Tiki Mug (Isla Nublar Variant): The Jurassic Park T-Rex tiki mug stands 9 inches tall and holds approximately 48 oz of liquid. Large mugs like this need extra shelf depth and weight capacity—don't place them on narrow or flimsy shelves.

• Halloween Tiki Mug (Beyond Fest Black): The Halloween tiki mug features a removable pumpkin lid and a Slasher Swizzle Stick, and holds about 17 oz. Removable parts like lids and stir sticks are easy to misplace—store them together in a small box or bag when not on display.
