“HiiDE” is the debut album by electronic producer BABii, co-produced by Adrian Sherwood (On-U-Sound system). BABii produces incredibly forward-thinking electro tinged pop/R&B that features skittering beats and incredibly thick, layered synths with heavy bass and a semi-industrial feel to them. The lyrics are dark, yet the vocals are sweet. Despite its incredible pop hooks, the whole LP drips with an undercurrent of darkness.

BABii wowed SXSW this year by playing 8 shows in 7 days, and drew comparisons to everyone from Grimes to FKA Twigs. While these examples might give you a jumping off point, they also feel a bit lazy; BABii definitely inhabits her own unique world, and Death Waltz Originals are very excited to give you your first dive into it.

Michael ★★★★★

The skittering beats and Adrian Sherwood's touch on co-production give this debut a raw, textured edge that keeps pulling me back for another listen. The CD itself plays clean with no skips, and the electro-pop/R&B blend feels genuinely forward-thinking.

Madison K. ★★★★★

Adrian Sherwood's co-production really shines through on this debut—every track has that gritty, tactile texture on top of the skittering beats. The CD arrived quickly and the artwork is a nice bonus, but the audio quality is what keeps pulling me back for another listen.

Ryan R. ★★★★★

The physical CD itself feels like a nice artifact, and the artwork fits the music's glitchy mood. Adrian Sherwood's production really gives these electro-pop tracks a weight that streaming just doesn't capture.
