"It was a little difficult to turn down a chance to draw the Headless Horseman himself, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that he sneaks into it in spite of me: this rider could almost be the Hessian at the moment of his decapitation. It’s a double entendre I didn’t intend, but in fact it's already built into the story and so it just kind of cropped up on its own in the design process.
