Storming into Japanese stores in early 1989, the highly anticipated follow-up to 1987’s Phantasy Star was an instant hit commercially and critically. Taking its cue from the original epic, Phantasy Star II upped the ante by stuffing dozens of hours worth of gameplay into a towering 6MB cartridge — the largest seen on the market at that time. The game found its way to international markets in 1990 and has remain a beloved classic of all those who have ever played it since.

Zoe G. ★★★★★

The packaging is spot-on, with that classic 80s cover art that takes me right back to the first time I played it. The audio quality is crisp and clear, especially on the bass-heavy tracks.

Lucy L. ★★★★★

The dynamic range on this pressing really brings out the synth layers that get buried in the original digital files. It’s a hefty gatefold sleeve too, so it feels like a proper 1989 artifact on my shelf.

Stella H. ★★★★★

I was a bit worried the vinyl would be noisy, but the pressing is dead quiet and really lets that 8-bit bass shine. The liner notes have some nice background on the game's development too.
